What The?

I go to my sister's house pretty regularly.  On the drive there I have to stop at a stop sign and as I look straight ahead I see this.
What the heck is it?  Last year these people started growing it.  At first I thought it was a huge weed until I realized that they had it staked off and protected.  What?!?  Then the ugliness kept getting bigger.
It's like the hugest weed I have ever seen!  Who would want that in their yard?  Does anyone know what it actually is?  Did I mention that it is huge and ugly.  I mean really-- what the?

Help me out here people.

If the owner's name is Jack then I think I can tell you what's going on. You should probably expect to see a piant fall from the sky right there in a few weeks.

That is seriously weird. I don't know what else to say.

That was supposed to be a "giant" falling from the sky. You know - Jack and the beanstalk.

Looks like it could be a fig tree. YUM!

I am quite sure Cheri is on to something here but maybe it is a big green cover so you don't see inside their house. I am sure they love it. Maybe it is suppose too, in time cover and eat the house.

I am all for pretty weeds growing in my yard but I have to agree with ya on this one.

Aleca-TOO funny. Derek and I just drove past on Friday, saw it, and commented about it. Timing is crazy. Literally, JUST this past Friday...Derek was like, "look at that weed". It's not like it is hidden in the back. Weird.

I just want to know how you took a picture without the owners knowing about it? Did you do a drive by photo session? Of did you actually get out of the swagger-wagon and take the picture?

No idea what kind of plant it is. Keep us posted if you find out what it is.

Yahhhh what is that! Would you research this a bit more or are we just gonna be left hangin on this one?

How do I research it? Do I google "really big ugly weed thing?" It's not like I can walk up to their house and ask... I'm not sure what to do. I was hoping that one of you would know.

It looks like a young Catalpa (it becomes a fabulously beautiful tree with time).
