If you have learned anything from this blog you know that I am addicted to two things, cake and books. I get so excited after I read a book-- I want everyone to read it too. Scott Westerfeld's Ugly series
The Uglies, The Pretties, The Specials and The Extras
This has (to my apprehension) a sci-fi feel to it. It was something that was suggested to me through my book club. It isn't a book I would have picked for myself and I had never heard of it. I am sooooo glad that I took the time to read it. Scott takes you into a world that is completely different than our own-- but things start to feel a little too close to home. It helps you explore the idea of ugly people and pretty people and what we would do to get ourselves there.
It really made me think about our society and my own life and how much I do to make other people think that I am "pretty." It's an easy read that is fun and exciting. It goes at a good pace and would even be really fun for your tween. It is a clean read that doesn't have anything you'd be worried about your kids reading. If you haven't read the series-- pick it up today. You won't be sorry.
